Data Usage Policy
We collect Mahr data to solve a specific problem: the lack of transparency in marriage finances. Here is exactly how that data is processed and used.
1. Aggregation & Anonymization
Every submission is treated as a data point, not a personal record. When you submit your Mahr, it enters a secure database where it is immediately widely detached from your identity (since we don't collect identity).
We then aggregate this data to calculate broader statistics. For example, instead of showing "Person A paid $10k", we calculate "The average Mahr for this demographic is $10k".
2. The "Mahr Mithl" Standard
In Islamic jurisprudence, Mahr Mithl refers to the "customary dower" of women of similar status. Our goal is to digitize this concept using real-world data.
- We group data by key factors: Country, Education Level, Income, and Age.
- We run statistical analysis (median, interquartile range) to find the "typical" range.
- We exclude statistical outliers to prevent skewed results from influencing the standard.
3. Public Availability
The insights generated from your data (e.g., charts, averages, calculators) are made effectively public to the community. This is done to maximize benefit—helping families avoid conflict and setting realistic expectations.
Raw individual submission records are never made public. Only aggregated views or anonymous, non-identifiable snippets (like anonymous "Why Stories" if explicitly permitted) are shown.
4. Data Ownership & Restrictions
The aggregated data and "Mahr Mithl" benchmarks provided on MahrGPT are the intellectual property of the MahrGPT initiative.
- No Scraping: Automated scraping, harvesting, or bulk export of our data is strictly prohibited to protect the integrity of our community's contributions.
- No Commercial Use: You may not sell, license, or redistribute our data for commercial purposes.
- Fair Use: You are welcome to cite our statistics for research, journalism, or personal discussions, provided you credit MahrGPT as the source.
